How to introduce yourself in Portuguese?

Introducing oneself is a way to begin a conversation or to simply let people know who someone is. It also usually depends on some factors, such as place and what is required to a person to be told at a certain place, while he introduces himself. As there are many occasions, when someone needs to introduce himself, today we are going to see just a basic way of how to do it in Portuguese, and in other opportunities, we may go into detail about it.

The most basic way to do it in Portuguese is greeting (and if you still do not know how to do it click here),  saying your name and saying it is a pleasure to meet the other person or people. In Portuguese, it would be: “Olá, meu nome é …, prazer (em conhecê-lo/la)!”; which in English means: “Hello, my name is …, it is a pleasure to meet you!”. You may say only “prazer” in the end. It is also acceptable. However if you wish to specify the object of the sentence, you may also use either  “prazer em conhecê-lo” or “prazer em conhecê-la”, and in this case, “lo” is the masculine object pronoun and “la” is the feminine one.

So if you would like to introduce yourself and begin a conversation in Portuguese, is there a better opportunity than now?! Success!!
