In many occasions, when someone speaks, it is important to be formal, and not only in one’ s own language, but in a foreign one as well. Thinking of it, we have decided to teach you today how say “thank you” in Portuguese.
“Thank you!” in Portuguese is “obrigado!”, still as words vary in Portuguese depending on their gender, “obrigado!” is for the masculine gender, and “obrigada!” is for the feminine gender.
“Thank you very much!” is “Muito obrigado!”.
There are some ways to answer a “thank you!” in Portuguese, one of them is “de nada!”, which literally means “for nothing!”, a humble way to say that the thing done by a person to another was not that big. Other way is “disponha!”, which means “you are welcome!”, and although it is not as used as “de nada”, it is more formal than that.
In the Portuguese language, as in many others, it is normal to contract words, and it does not happen differently with “obrigado/a”. When speaking informally to someone in Portuguese, it is common to say “brigado/a!”, instead of the complete form. However it is just a detail. The important is to keep thankful!
