When talking about objects, it is important to know characteristics of them, mainly when describing them to other people. You may talk about the size and shape of objects, for example, to clarify to people what you are talking about. That is why we are going to teach you today something very important and that may come in handy to you when you will wish to describe something in Portuguese. Today we are going to teach you seven colors in Portuguese. Specifically, the seven colors of the rainbow, and maybe in another opportunity, we may increase the number of colors. Let’ s get started!
Red – Vermelho(a) (veɦ.mˈe.ʎʊ or vɨɾ.mˈɐ.ʎu)
Yellow – Amarelo(a) (ã.ma.ɾˈɛ.lʊ or ɐ.mɐ.ɾˈɛ.lu)
Orange – Laranja (la.ɾˈɐ̃.ʒɐ or lɐ.ɾˈɐ̃.ʒɐ)
Green – Verde (vˈeɦ.dʒɪ or vˈeɾ.dɨ)
Blue – Azul (a.zˈuw or ɐ.zˈuɫ)
Indigo – Anil (ã.nˈiw or ɐ.nˈiɫ)
Purple – Violeta (vjo.lˈe.tɐ or vju.lˈe.tɐ)
Obs.: The colors that have this “(a)” after its name are the ones which have to be inflected by gender. “Vermelho” is masculine and “vermelha” is feminine, for example.
